West Brom consider late swoop for West Ham defender with 4 PL starts in 20/21 – report
West Brom have considered a late swoop for West Ham United defender Ryan Fredericks, according to the Birmingham Mail.
It is suggested that a right-sided defender is one of Sam Allardyce’s priorities before Monday’s deadline, with Japhet Tanganga and Ainsley Maitland-Niles at the top of their list.
Big Sam has admitted that the Baggies have scouted hundreds of players this month already, with Robert Snodgrass and Mbaye Diagne the only arrivals so far.
Fredericks has fallen out of favour at the London Stadium.
Since the arrival of Vladimir Coufal in the summer, the Englishman has only started the one game against Southampton in December.
The 28-year-old did start the season as first-choice under David Moyes, but after three consecutive starts, he was plagued by injury problems.
Since the start of January, Fredericks has only completed 20 minutes of league action and will surely be desperate for that to improve.
Deal unlikely.
With Maitland-Niles the number one target at The Hawthorns, it appears as though there could be plenty of happy faces before tonight’s deadline.
David Ornstein has reported that a deal should get done for the England international to join on loan until the end of the season.
Competition from Leicester and Southampton appears to have disappeared, opening the door for the Albion to swoop.
Fredericks would have been a solid option with Premier League experience, but it appears as though he was nothing more than a last-resort should other deals fail.
