EFL boss admits deadline-day enquiry for West Brom 22y/o, explains why move failed
Luton Town boss Nathan Jones has admitted making a deadline-day enquiry for West Brom winger Kyle Edwards on Monday.
The 22-year-old has become an outcast at The Hawthorns this season, and his current deal runs out at the end of this season.
Jones claimed that loan fees and other financial aspects of any potential deal made it impossible for the Hatters to complete any move for the winger.
Speaking to Luton Today, Jones admitted that he wanted to make a last-ditch move for Edwards, but the contact ended rapidly.
“We inquired about Kyle and he wasn’t available, which we knew pretty much straight away.
“If he was available, he wasn’t available in the budget that we could afford, there are things like loan fees now, so he wasn’t available.
“Kyle we know about, he’s a West Brom player and that wasn’t possible, but that was just a quick phone call, we knew instantly, so we moved on quite quickly there.”
Edwards will be in limbo at this stage of his career.
The 22-year-old appears to stand no chance of featuring under Sam Allardyce, but yet he didn’t manage to seal an exit away to get valuable minutes away from the Baggies.
With only one start and four appearances off the bench in the Premier League, it would have been hard for West Brom to bring in any money off any sale.
Edwards wasn’t even on the bench against Sheffield United, and there is a real sense that we are just counting down until his inevitable exit.
It’s a shame Luton couldn’t fund any sort of move on deadline day, as it could have freed up funds for another potential deal, but we can’t complain too much.
