West Brom loanee deal terminated despite only joining club in January window

Owen Windsor will spend the rest of the season at West Brom after his loan deal at Newport County was terminated.

On Albion’s official website, it was confirmed on Wednesday that Windsor, 19, is returning to the Black Country even though he only joined Newport on January 5.

The former Cirencester striker made just one appearance for Newport when he came off the bench for 23 minutes against Cheltenham in League Two on January 19.

Bizarre circumstances for Windsor

Windsor’s had a tough season.

It looked as though it would go swimmingly for him when he first joined Grimsby at the start of the campaign.

However, after 13 appearances and two goals, he was inexplicitly returned to the Baggies by Grimsby manager Ian Holloway.

When asked why he sent Windsor back [Grimsby Telegraph], the now-former Grimbsy boss said: “Because I wanted to.”

Windsor found himself a new club at the start of January but has now seen that terminated in less than a month without any explanation.

Something doesn’t add up and needs to be clarified.

Is Windsor the problem? Are West Brom sending him to the wrong clubs? Is he injured? No one knows because nothing on the Albion or Newport websites explain why he’s back at The Hawthorns.

Hopefully he can get his head down and continue working hard with West Brom’s Under-23s now because there’s a good chance he’ll have to make do with Premier League 2 football for the rest of this campaign.

In other West Brom news, Albion made a late swoop for this Barcelona player but failed.
