West Brom ace could become best-paid player in history of Euro league – report
Legia Warsaw will have to make Kamil Grosicki the best-paid player in the history of the Polish Ekstraklasa if they sign the West Brom winger, according to Interia Sport.
The Polish news outlet reports that Grosicki, 32, is currently earning £40,000-a-week on his contract at The Hawthorns, which expires at the end of this season.
It is understood that Legia Warsaw have already “contacted Grosicki directly and opened negotiations with him” with offers from Nottingham Forest, Schalke, Alanyaspor and Fatih Karagümrük already rejected.
Interia Sport adds that West Brom are willing to let Grosicki leave on a free transfer amid interest from Legia. However, the attacker’s £40,000-a-week wage at the Albion is “unattainable” for Polish clubs to match.
That doesn’t mean a deal can be ruled out though as this report claims Grosicki’s marketing potential could help Legia strike an agreement.
Grosicki’s a huge deal in Poland
Grosicki isn’t quite up there with Robert Lewandowski and Zbigniew Boniek but he’s still one of the most well-known Polish players of the last decade.
He’s played 80 times for the Eastern European nation, played in the Premier League, Ligue 1 and Turkish Super Lig and could be a very good signing for a team like Legia Warsaw.
Grosicki is on a big wage at the Albion and getting him on the books now could save the club a lot of money between now and the end of the season when there’s a good chance Luke Dowling will be tasked with overhauling the squad – again.
Albion need to agree to let Grosicki go as soon as possible but why would the winger do that when there are no attractive offers for him on the table?
Grosicki’s coming towards the end of his career and, as the last few weeks have shown, is completely out of the picture under Sam Allardyce.
Poland play in the European Championships this summer and the ex-Hull winger will have his eyes on playing in that.
Will he get into the Euros squad if he stays at West Brom? There’s a chance he won’t. Will he make a lot of money if he stays at The Hawthorns? Yes, he will.
But if Legia can come close to matching his wages then surely there’s a huge chance he will be able to play at the Euros, play regular club football and earn decent money.
Hopefully a decent offer comes in for him soon.
