‘I can’t see anything bar…’ – Exclusive: Kevin Phillips predicts West Brom clash v Tottenham
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Phillips is struggling to see anything but a Tottenham win against West Brom on Sunday afternoon.
Albion take on Jose Mourinho’s side in North London in a bid to close down the gap between themselves in 19th and 17th-placed Burnley.
However, with teams outside of the drop zone showing a decent spell of form, the Baggies now have just 16 matches to close down a gap of 11 points if they want to stand any chance of survival.
Spurs will no doubt prove to be a tough match for the Albion and ex-West Brom striker Phillips is fully expecting the London club to win on Sunday.
“I very rarely go against the Baggies. Although Tottenham have faltered a bit of late, I can’t see anything bar a Tottenham win, unfortunately,” Phillips told West Brom News.
Albion have lost just three of their last 11 meetings with Tottenham, with five of those matches ending as 1-1 draws.
Spurs always seem to be one of those big teams who struggle to play against us and earlier in the season, it looked as though Slaven Bilic was on the verge of earning a point before Harry Kane scored a late winner at The Hawthorns.
Mourinho will be without Kane this weekend but he’ll still have a cast of players who have performed well this season, mostly Heung-min Son.
Spurs signed Son when West Brom wouldn’t sell Saido Berahino to them all those years ago and look at how things have panned out since then.
We expect Son to cause us issues this weekend and agree with Phillips that Tottenham will win all three points and hammer another nail into the Albion relegation coffin.
In other West Brom news, this Albion player is set to be offered a £15,000-a-week contract by a manager who loves him.
