‘Lazy’, ‘Useless yet again’ – Some West Brom fans slam one ‘Awful’ player at HT v Spurs
West Brom faced incessant first-half pressure from Tottenham on Sunday and some fans targeted Romaine Sawyers after another sluggish performance.
After being dropped for the last two games Sawyers returned to the starting Xi for Sunday’s fixture at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
It was an interesting call from Sam Allardyce with the player struggling for any sort of form this season and the game did not get off to the best of starts for the 29-year-old Albion youth academy product.
With Spurs piling the pressure on Albion looked ragged in the opening period and a chance for their star man Harry Kane drew the ire of some fans on Twitter.
The hosts broke on their visitors and the ball was eventually played to Kane who took a touch before firing wide with Sawyers in close quarters.
However despite his presence some fans criticised him for not doing enough with one saying he was ‘lazy’ and another accusing Sawyers of ‘watching Kane and standing there’.
The first half was one-way traffic and difficult for Sawyers to do what he does best, or at least what he did in the Championship, and get on the ball and utilise his passing abilities.
However as has been the case for much of the season it is his lack of defensive nous and nonchalant attitude that has caused consternation amongst Albion fans.
