‘Liability’, ‘Cost us’ – Some West Broms fans tear ‘Brainless’ defender to shreds v Spurs
West Brom endured a miserable Sunday afternoon in London after they were outclassed against Tottenham with plenty of players attracting criticism from fans.
They remained resolute in the first half and went into the break level but Albion self-combusted in the second period with Harry Kane opening the scoring before Heung-Min Son added a second before the hour mark.
Both goals seemed rather avoidable but the nature of the second was particularly frustrating given how far Spurs were from goal when the attack began, and one player has been blamed for failing to stop the counter-attack at a critical period.
Albion had a number of players committed in the Spurs half as they searched for an instant reply but the hosts regained possession and set off on the counter.
Just before Lucas Moura reached the half-way line Bartley had the opportunity to stop him in his tracks, probably by fouling him such was the speed Moura was breaking away at.
One would think an experienced player like Bartley would have the defensive nous to deal with the danger and foul him so that West Brom could recover and get men back into their own half.
It would have been a sure-fire yellow card but Bartley had not been booked in the game and had to take one for the team here.
He didn’t and the inevitable ensued as Moura raced away before feeding Son to slot past Sam Johnstone and put the game beyond Albion.
