Quashie wants Allardyce to build West Brom side around this player

Former West Brom man Nigel Quashie has stated that Sam Allardyce should build his side around Matheus Pereira following Sunday’s loss to Tottenham.

Goals from Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min condemned Albion to another loss in the fight against an immediate return to the Championship.

Pereira was dropped to the bench for the game which raised a few eyebrows with the Brazilian being the Baggies’ best player by a country mile in recent weeks.

Following the 2-0 loss, Quashie took to Twitter to declare what he though Big Sam should do next after another disappointing loss.

He said, “The manager has looked at all the players, time to go with what he thinks is his strongest 11 and build it around Matheus Pereira.”

It seems a fairly obvious thing to do, building a team around your best player, but this is something Allardyce decided against on Sunday.

The Albion boss stated that he wanted to have a stronger defence and as result Pereira missed out on a start.

Seeing as our defence has been poor all season and Pereira has been our most influential player in recent weeks it was a shocking call to omit the player from Sunday’s starting 11.

If we were going to score against Spurs then it would’ve been through Pereira.

Robert Snodgrass sent a few crosses in and Mbaye Diagne should’ve done better to stay onside but other than that we offered very little.

The Brazilian was given ten minutes at the end of the game to make something happen but he didn’t have enough time to influence the game.

If Allardyce has any sense he won’t drop Pereira again and he will build a team that can exploit the talent of our best player.

But counting on Allardyce to use sense is becoming a risky game.
