Big Sam gives green light for West Brom transfer, ‘very confident’ of sealing deal – report
Sam Allardyce has given West Brom the green light for the signing of free-agent forward Ahmed Musa this week, according to All Nigeria Soccer.
The online outlet have claimed on their website that the Baggies and Big Sam are “very confident” of sealing the deal for the Nigerian international.
It has been suggested that the release or sale of Kamil Grosicki should free up the funds needed to bring Musa to The Hawthorns.
Worrying reports had surfaced this week that the Musa deal was out of reach.
The Daily Mail reported that the Albion didn’t have enough cash to complete the move and that Burnley, Brighton or Southampton could jump in under their noses.
Thankfully, that appears to have changed.
Musa is currently training with the Baggies after finally ironing out issues with the COVID-19 protocols which saw his arrival delayed.
The 28-year-old is said to have proved himself physically to Allardyce and the Baggies staff as he looks to seal a move until the end of the season.
It will be interesting to see Allardyce’s plans for Musa.
Mbaye Diagne, Callum Robinson and Karlan Grant have all led the line this season, with the latter two even being played out-wide by Allardyce.
The Nigerian can play both of those positions, and it appears as though he may well be asked to play wider to utilise his pace for the physicality of Diagne.
It is hard to have much confidence in this deal, with Musa having not played since November, in two games against Sierra-Leone for his country.
The Premier League is the toughest division in the world, so two games of football in three months will surely have taken its toll on Musa – let’s hope this doesn’t backfire.
