Jermaine Jenas makes claim about West Brom ownership on MOTD2, Alan Shearer agrees
Jermaine Jenas believes West Brom owner Guochuan Lai will realise how “bleak” things are looking at The Hawthorns right now.
Sam Allardyce has pretty much failed in his bid to keep the Baggies in the Premier League with his side 11 points away from safety. Burnley, who are 17th, also have a game in hand on the Albion and have a far better goal difference.
After watching West Brom lose 2-0 away at Tottenham, Jenas claimed that hiring Allardyce to replace Slaven Bilic hasn’t had the desired effect in the Black Country.
“It’s not working out, is the bottom line,” said Jenas on Match of the Day 2 on Sunday night.
“From West Brom’s ownership and from his point of view, it’s looking pretty bleak.”
Alan Shearer agreed by simply saying: “Yep.”
(R) West Bromwich Albion
We’ve been saying for weeks that it would take a miracle for West Brom to avoid relegation back to the Championship. After seeing so many results go against us in the last couple of weeks, that big fat ‘R’ might as well be stuck by our name in the league table already.
There’s no hope now. It’s over.
We don’t blame the club for sacking Bilic in December. West Brom were in a wretched run of form and we’re showing little signs of improvement.
Big Sam arrived with the reputation that he’s able to keep teams in the Premier League but getting this squad of players to stay up is beyond even his powers.
West Brom’s squad is not good enough – pure and simple.
Lai’s failure to invest in the summer, coupled with bad decisions by Luke Dowling and Bilic, has led to the team Big Sam currently has being way short of being able to compete in England’s top-flight.
There are some good players in the bunch with Sam Johnstone and Matheus Pereira shining at times this season but relying on a goalkeeper and dropping your best player, as was done at Spurs, is just never going to work out well.
In other West Brom news, Albion fans are furious with Big Sam after seeing what BT Sport cameras caught him doing at Spurs.
