Albion outcast prepared to slash £40k p/w wages to force West Brom exit

Kamil Grosicki is willing to take a huge hit on his West Brom wages to force a move to Legia Warsaw but there are still financial hurdles affecting the deal.

That is according to Polish outlet TVP Sport who report that while all parties are interested in making the deal happen there has been no breakthrough in negotiations over the last few days.

Grosicki has enjoyed an unhappy second term at The Hawthorns after joining from Hull City midway through last season’s promotion-winning campaign.

According to TVP Sport despite interest from Legia there is haggling ongoing over Grosicki’s wage demands despite the 32-year-old offering to more than halve his current rate, with the fees currently considered “colossal” for the Polish league champions.

It was reported earlier in January that Grosicki’s wages jumped up to £40,000 [meczyki] after playing against Wolves on January 16.

His contract expires in June [transfermarkt] so it is likely he would leave on a free with Albion just desperate to get him off the books as soon as possible.

Count him out

The Poland international made 14 appearances last season but has featured just four times in 2020/21.

He seemed to enjoy an Albion renaissance of sorts when he made a hat-trick of successive starts under Sam Allardyce in January, playing from the off against Blackpool in the FA Cup before beginning games vs Wolves and West Ham in the Premier League.

However since that 2-1 defeat at the London Stadium on January 19 he has been left out of all squads and is deemed surplus to requirements by Big Sam.

With the arrivals of Robert Snodgrass and Ainsley Maitland-Niles Albion now have a lot of attacking midfield options with Matheus Pereira, Grady Diangana and Matt Phillips also in the mix.

There does appear to be a dearth of pacey wingers, though, and on the evidence of games v Wolves and West Ham it looked like Grosicki could bring something different to the side but his recent shunning shows his future is bleak in the West Midlands.
