Lepkowski shocked by ‘horrendous’ Big Sam decision at West Brom
BBC Radio WM broadcaster Adrian Goldberg has said that he thinks Sam Allardyce’s decision to drop West Brom attacker Mattheus Pereira to the bench was “beyond staggering”.
Journalist Chris Lepkowski agreed saying it was a “horrendous” decision.
The 24-year-old winger was dropped to the bench for the game against Tottenham that West Brom went on to lose 2-0.
He came on for the final 10 minutes after the game was already lost.
Allardyce tried to explain away the decision by saying that Pereira couldn’t play in a 4-3-3 but that’s something that was dismissed by BBC Radio WM broadcaster Adrian Goldberg and journalist Chris Lepkowski in the latest episode of the Liquidator podcast.
Talking on the Liquidator podcast, Goldberg said, “I think you pick your best players and you form your team and selection around your best players.
“How you can start a game without him is beyond staggering to me.”
“Like you, I was staggered,” said Lepkowski. “He’s the guy that can create and the guy that can score.”
“I think it’s a bonkers decision, I really do. Matheus Periera has a lot to learn about English football but he’s done a lot of good things recently.
“I can think of seven or eight players I’d rather drop.”
Big Sam not working
Keeping things tight isn’t working for West Brom under Allardyce.
We’ve conceded 28 goals and only scored eight goals. Saying that you didn’t concede for 45 minutes and that the points got away from you is just disingenuous.
The Tottenham game was only ever going one way and it seems naive in the extreme to think that you can try and squeak a point by stopping Harry Kane and Heung-min Son scoring.
If we take the Man United game out of the equation – we’re very unlikely to get anything from that – Albion’s survival hinges on four games against Burnley, Brighton, Newcastle and Crystal Palace.
Three wins minimum are needed from these games or it’s time to stop the Big sam experiment and plan for the future in the Championship.
In other West Brom news, Albion fans want this 45-year-old manager to replace Sam Allardyce.
