View: West Brom must persist in pursuit of Musa with PL survival at stake
West Brom must persist in their attempts to sign free agent Ahmed Musa despite the proposed transfer hitting a snag.
The Daily Mail reported last week that Albion no longer have the funds to sign Musa and he could move to another Premier League club with Brighton, Southampton and Burnley interested in the Nigerian.
However, on Tuesday, the Nigerian national coach Gernot Rohr stated that the forward is still in the UK and he is hoping that a move can be sorted soon, as per All Nigeria Soccer.
With the Daily Mail report throwing this transfer into doubt, many Albion fans stated that the club should move on from Musa and focus on saving money for next season’s Championship campaign.
We believe this is the wrong approach.
Musa, while not exactly proven in the Premier League, has assets that can benefit Albion and give us one last shot of staying up.
He is rapid and no one else in our front line has much pace with through balls ending up in the arms of grateful keepers more often than not.
But aside from this, we are desperate.
We understand the school of thought that believes we should give up on the Premier League and get ready for next season.
But we also see the other side and see that there are 15 games left this season with ties against Burnley, Brighton and Newcastle coming up.
Two wins from three in those games drastically changes the direction of our season.
There is still plenty to play for and the signing of a new striker will provide a small boost and more importantly another option for Big Sam.
We’ve seen that Karlan Grant can’t do it, we’ve seen that Mbaye Diagne might be able to do it but we need all the help we can get if we are to score enough goals to keep us safe.
If Musa comes in and scores one goal but it’s the goal that keeps us up then any extra money spent on him would be worth it.
The club shouldn’t give up on it’s Premier League status or Musa, we hope that the Nigerian is back training with the boys soon.
In other West Brom news, Albion fans want this 45-year-old manager to replace Sam Allardyce.
