Sam Allardyce says West Brom must achieve this key target to stand chance of PL survival
Sam Allardyce has challenged his West Brom strugglers to go on a lengthy unbeaten run to preserve their Premier League status.
Albion are drifting away from the chasing pack and currently sit 11 points behind 17th-placed Burnley.
Despite avoiding defeat in just eight of their 23 league games so far Big Sam has issued his players with a daunting unbeaten target.
As reported on the Express and Star website Allardyce said: “We have to go on an unbeaten run.
“Can the club go four, five, six games without defeat?
“That is the first challenge for us now. Can we start drawing or winning?
“We need to go on an undefeated run and that will see the points tot up on the board.”
Empty words
Talk about a far-fetched comment.
These are just words now emanating from a man who sounds more desperate by the day.
Allardyce talks about putting a plan in place and setting these targets but what is he actually doing to achieve them?
He was brought in to provide a solid structure to a side that was leaking goals and had a soft underbelly but he has managed to make it even worse.
There is no stability and no cohesion to his ‘masterplan’.
According to Transfermarkt Big Sam has used a whopping 29 players in his 11 games in charge – where is the consistency?
That is already three more than he used when he guided to Crystal Palace to safety during the 2016/17 season.
If he was using that as a template to inspire survival here he has got it horribly wrong.
Sure he had to assess the squad but this seems excessive to say the very least.
He has flitted between formations, opting for five and four-man defences while he has also gone for the genius plan of keeping our best player (Matheus Pereira) on the bench, as he did against Spurs last Sunday just days after the Brazilian was nominated for January’s Premier League Player of the Month.
Four games without defeat?
We’ll believe it when we see it.
