Big Sam seeking clarification after Maguire incident in WBA draw v Man Utd
Sam Allardyce is seeking clarification surrounding the Harry Maguire incident in the 1-1 draw between West Brom and Manchester United.
Craig Pawson initially handed the Red Devils a penalty, but VAR ruled that Semi Ajayi made no foul on the defender, but he was offside either way – something that didn’t halt proceedings.
Big Sam claimed that it shouldn’t have been at all after the offside was noticed, and the game should have continued rather than being delayed.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Allardyce admitted that he was left “massively confused” by the decision to go to VAR.
“The confusing thing is Harry Maguire is offside before it,” he said.
“He’s not just offside, he’s well offside. I don’t know why there had to be a decision on whether it was or wasn’t a penalty.
“What should have been the decision was offside, let’s play on, and not a decision where it was or wasn’t a penalty.
“I’m massively confused about that situation, and I’d like some clarification from somebody.”
It was a joke.
We can’t understand why Jon Moss in the VAR centre didn’t bring the review to an end instantly when Maguire was clearly offside at the edge of the area.
Maguire and United had the cheek to even say they were hard done by in the game, but he will surely eat his own words when checking the replays.
For a big, so-called hard defender, he went down so easily, and this moaning only proves how frustrated the Baggies made the away side.
Allardyce and the Albion deserve clarification, and we will see if they give it as rapidly as they would a top-six side, time will tell.
