Dermot Gallagher shares verdict on Mbaye Diagne goal in WBA draw v Man United

Dermot Gallagher has claimed it was the right decision to allow Mbaye Diagne’s opening goal in the 1-1 draw between West Brom and Manchester United.

The Senegalese headed the Baggies ahead inside the opening minutes at The Hawthorns, beating Victor Lindelof to Conor Gallagher’s chipped delivery.

Graeme Souness and many others claimed that Diagne fouled the United defender, but referee Craig Pawson and Gallagher seemed to disagree.

Speaking on Sky Sports during Monday’s edition of Ref Watch, Gallagher claimed it was a great goal showcasing physicality in the final third.

“It is a good goal,” he said.

“The forward is strong, he does not do anything wrong for me, he gets across the defender and heads the ball cleanly and it is good forward’s play.

It was never a foul.

The only thing you’re guaranteed when playing Manchester United is continued moaning and groaning at any decisions that may go against them, despite the hundreds that go for them throughout a season.

We don’t remember any complaints in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford when everything went against the Baggies in that slender 1-0 win.

Diagne was just too strong for Lindelof, who was shockingly prepared for that great cross from Gallagher, and he paid the price.

Time to move on, we can’t wait to see more from Diagne between now and May.
