View: Jon Leko deal proved to be West Brom masterclass with Birmingham fans fuming

Birmingham made their move to sign West Brom winger Jon Leko in the summer, with another Baggies youngster shown the door.

At the time, there was some disappointment surrounding The Hawthorns and the likes of Kyle Edwards could be set to follow his lead this year.

Birmingham spent £990,000 on the 21-year-old, and it added nearly £1million into the budget for the likes of Slaven Bilic to spend.

The Blues are struggling, and Leko isn’t helping that.

A recent clip on Soccer AM was shared of the winger appearing to pass the ball to no-one, and straight out of play when under minimum pressure.

WBA Report shared the clip and hit it right on the nose with their response, claiming Leko tried too many tricks and flicks but didn’t deliver enough goals and assists.

Many Birmingham fans were fuming in their reactions, and just a couple of them prove why the Baggies were right to cut ties permanently.

In 20 appearances in all competitions this season, Leko has yet to even score and deliver a single assist for one of our nearest rivals.

Some Albion fans may start thinking that the winger was sent as a secret agent to potentially play a hand in their relegation.

Just because a young talent produced something special once, it doesn’t mean he is the total package, they have to do it for more than a full season; something Leko didn’t do.

This could be seen as a message to the likes of Edwards, who looks likely to suffer the same fate as Leko during the summer.

We can confidently look back now, and confirm that this was a great decision.
