West Brom fans have torn Matheus Pereira to shreds for his performance in the 0-0 draw against Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday.
Although Albion played most of the match with 10-men due to Semi Ajayi’s first-half sending off, Sam Allardyce’s side had the better chances after the break and would have run out worthy winners if all they did was score.
According to the xG Philosophy, West Brom finished the match with an xG of 1.59 compared to Burnley’s 0.65.
Pereira was one of the key men to blame for Albion failing to make the breakthrough at Turf Moor with the Brazilian missing a golden opportunity to score when he was passed the ball by Mbaye Diagne.
It looked easier to score than to miss for Pereira but the Brazilian playmaker completely fluffed his lines.
Pereira’s done so much good for the Baggies this season that overall, he’s probably been the best outfield player for the club in the top-flight.
However, there’s no room for sympathy when it comes to his performance away at Burnley because if he scored one or two of the chances that came his way, the Black Country side could have earned a vital three points in the bid to avoid relegation.
Albion fans have not held back at all on criticising the popular Brazilian, with one even claiming that he’s a “waste of space”.
Here is a selection of their tweets:
Why can Pereira no longer take a decent corner? What is that about? #wba

Can somebody take pereira of set pieces please? So much wasted today!! A point is just not good enough, but tbh part of me just loves the championship, proper football and no VAR, the premier league with VAR just isn’t for me, shame it’s where all the finances are #wba

Pereira has been absolutely awful today. Always been a massive fan of him but I can’t defend him today… #WBA

Perfect example of why we're going down

Pereira’s performance today felt like a shop window performance to try drum up some interest in him. Good quality but so selfish at times. At least doing it with his feet than his voice though if my subconscious feeling is right

In other West Brom news, Albion have frozen out this player but it’s not for sporting reasons.
