Lineker blasts PL lawmakers after West Brom v Brighton controversy

Gary Lineker has taken aim at football lawmakers after a controversial moment from the first half of West Brom v Brighton.

Lewis Dunk steered home a free-kick midway through the first 45 minutes but Lee Mason ruled out the goal.

The referee blew his whistle for a second time before the ball crossed the line which ruled out the goal despite the finish looking legal at first glance.

Lineker took to Twitter to vent his frustration at the decision as many scratched their heads over what they had just witnessed.

Lineker tweeted, “The reason it was disallowed was because the ref blew his whistle for a 2nd time just before it crossed the line, which stops play.

“Never seen that happen before but highlights the nonsensity of a law that stops the side who’ve been fouled gaining an advantage.”

We have seen some bizarre decisions this season but this might just take the biscuit.

Yes, we have benefitted from the decision but that doesn’t mean we should celebrate as poor refereeing decisions could yet cost us again this season.

Though we have to admit it is nice to see a VAR decision go our way for once.

Lineker is right here, some of the laws are absolutely ridiculous and make no sense when applied practically.

Why did Mason even blow his whistle if he wasn’t ready for the free-kick to be taken?

We actually sympathise with Brighton here as they must believe they have a strong case in their quest for a goal.

What a shambles this league is, we’re almost looking forward to going down so we don’t have to write about VAR for at least a season.
