Matheus Pereira provides update after West Brom beat Brighton

West Brom picked up a much-needed win over Brighton on Saturday and Matheus Pereira could not hide his delight on social media.

The victory has been a long time coming but seemed to be on the horizon after draws with Manchester United and Burnley.

Pereira revealed his disappointment at the state of Albion’s season last month but was much more buoyant after finally picking up another three points.

“Day Off? Work on. I’m extremely proud of the team’s efforts! Well done lads! Keep focus,” said the Brazilian star on his personal Twitter account on Sunday.

The update shows that the Brazilian is still recovering from his effort against the Seagulls.

Coming in on a day off is a great example of his professionalism, with the midfielder focused on the task at hand – survival.

West Brom

Growing optimism

West Brom have turned a corner in recent matches and there is potential for us to go on an unbeaten run.

That will be vital in fighting relegation and it is good to see a hint of optimism in the camp.

We deserve to be positive after recent displays and hopefully that allows us to show confidence in games.

However, there are still areas of weakness and Pereira is one player who needs to improve.

He had minimal influence against Brighton with zero dribbles and an appalling 61% pass accuracy, per WhoScored.

With Grady Diangana and Robert Snodgrass to return there will be pressure on his place – that could lead to an improvement.

Despite that, there is finally reason to be pleased at The Hawthorns and if we can beat Newcastle next week the great escape could really be on.
