Rodriguez tweet highlights what West Brom have missed since 2019

Jay Rodriguez had West Brom fans pondering what might’ve been with a message to his former boss on Monday afternoon.

Former Albion manager Darren Moore was appointed as Sheffield Wednesday boss on Monday leaving League One side Doncaster Rovers.

Rodriguez sent a heartfelt message to his manager on social media and we couldn’t help but cast our minds back to Moore’s reign at The Hawthorns.

Rodriguez tweeted, “Wishing Darren all the best in his new role! A top man who brought belief back at West Brom and helped us kick on.”

Moore certainly brought belief back to Albion and oh how we could do with some of that right now.

There is no point in trying to predict what might’ve happened if Moore never left West Brom but it’s hard to not wonder.

He worked wonders for us and the belief that Rodriguez alludes to never really returned under Slaven Bilic.

Under Sam Allardyce, despite some improved performance, we’ve never truly believed that we can beat the drop.

That’s not his fault though as the situation was pretty much unsalvagable and again, it is hard to predict if Moore would’ve done any better if he was handed the job.

But Moore tapped into something at Albion and it is something that will be very important to Sheffield Wednesday in their attempt to beat the drop.

We need the belief that Moore brought to the club once again.

Recreating that is never easy and it takes a certain type of manager to tap into that mentality.

We can’t blame Big Sam for failing to find that level of belief but that message from Rodriguez might have touched on something we have been desperately missing since Moore left.
