Saint-Maximin and Almiron ruled out of West Brom clash
Newcastle United will have none of their usual front three available when they take on West Brom this weekend after the club shared an injury update.
Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron were both taken off with injuries during the Magpies’ game against Wolves at the weekend and the club have now confirmed the extent of their knocks.
Both attackers will be out until April meaning they will miss this weekend’s game at The Hawthorns.
With star striker Callum Wilson also sidelined, Newcastle will be deploying a second-string attack against Albion.
We all saw how deadly Almiron can be in last season’s FA Cup clash as he came to The Hawthorns and bagged a brace while Saint-Maximin caused us plenty of problems.
Our defence will have a much easier time of it with these players out but it won’t be an easy game as Ryan Fraser now looks set to start and he can be deadly on his day.
Our problems aren’t at the back anyway after keeping two clean sheets in our last two games, we need our attackers to start turning up.
The goalscoring duties fell to Kyle Bartley at the weekend as Mbaye Diagne once again failed to score.
Matheus Pereira has also been quiet in recent weeks and he needs to start performing if we are to have any hope of gaining ground on teams like Newcastle.
There is no doubt this injury news will come as a welcome boost to Sam Allardyce as he prepares to face his former side.
But we will still need to work hard for the win and we can’t afford to go into the game thinking it is already won.
Another three-point haul does look achievable now though.
