West Brom loanee Charlie Austin comes to blows with QPR team-mate

Charlie Austin has made quite a lot of headlines since West Brom loaned him out to QPR in the January transfer window.

Most of those headlines have been positive ones with the 31-year-old rediscovering his shooting boots and netting four goals in nine Championship matches for QPR.

However, after he grabbed that fourth goal at the weekend in Rangers’ defeat to Birmingham City, Austin “came to blows” with team-mate Geoff Cameron, according to talkSPORT.

Since then, Austin has spoken out about the incident and confirms it was defused fairly quickly by ex-Baggies man Stefan Johansen, who is also on loan at QPR.

“Me and Geoff Cameron, after the game, had a little moan at each other. He came in saying it wasn’t good enough, I replied that we gotta defend better,” Austin told talkSPORT.

“We have a full argument in front of the team and then Stef stood up and said ‘woah, woah, woah, it’s my fault, I should have killed the game off. It was poor from me’.

“Me and Geoff just looked at each other and went ‘I’m glad he just said that!’.

“It depends on the player. Stef’s Norwegian captain, should have scored to make it 2-0 and he knows that, he stood up in front of us and held his hands up.”

All in a day’s work

Austin has been in superb form back at QPR and although it didn’t work out for him quite as planned at West Brom, we wish the striker well in West London.

He’s been scoring goals and helping win matches, which has helped QPR move well away from the Championship’s relegation zone.

It was a bit of a shock on Saturday when they lost to Birmingham though.

Although they were away at St Andrew’s, Blues have been in wretched form this season and are one of the main contenders to be relegated to League One.

Austin showed he still knows how to score against Blues – as he did so well at West Brom – but he also showed a huge desire to win matches after the game.

Footballers must have bust-ups like Austin and Cameron’s all the time. We just don’t always hear about them.

It shows they care and plenty of Albion fans probably thought Austin didn’t care at all about the Baggies during his season and a half playing for us.

He probably did. We just didn’t see it.

In other West Brom news, this youngster has been tipped to “take the league by storm” if the Albion sign him in the summer.
