Supercomputer rates West Brom's chances v Newcastle this weekend

A supercomputer has worked out the chances of West Brom beating Newcastle United this weekend and its bad news for Albion.

The supercomputer model predictions are based on the FiveThirtyEight revision to the Soccer Power Index, which is a rating mechanism for football teams that takes account of over half a million matches and is based on Opta‘s play-by-play data.

Having looked at the form the computer has made a call over the chances of a positive result for Albion this weekend.

West Brom

The computer model gives West Brom a 31% chance of a win against Steve Bruce's men while the Magpies have a 41% chance of winning.

This leaves a 28% chance of a draw at The Hawthorns with Sam Allardyce targeting another win after seeing off Brighton.

You have to question the reliability of this model and we're assuming it hasn't taken into account Newcastle's recent injury woes.

They will be without Callum Wilson, Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron on Sunday and surely that gives us a good chance of getting a result.

It doesn't matter what a computer says.

We daren't look at the stats from the weekend as they probably suggest we were battered by Brighton after they missed two penalties.

The only stat that matters is the one on the scoreboard at the end of the game and you'd be hard-pressed to find an Albion fan who cares about xG.

We have to be considered favourites for this weekend's clash.

Newcastle struggle to score at the best of times and they will be without their three most potent attackers.

One goal will be enough to win it and we certainly have that in us with Mbaye Diagne getting closer every week.

It's Newcastle, if we aren't going to beat them then we deserve to go down.
