Opta AI predicts West Brom will finish bottom of the PL with 25 points
Look away now if you’re not in the mood for bad news. West Brom will finish bottom of the Premier League table this season according to Opta’s Stats Perform AI.
Albion have been on a good run lately, losing just one of the last four, while also putting in a good showing in the defeat to Everton.
However, with games against Chelsea, Leicester and Liverpool remaining, Opta’s experts are predicting the worst.
In fact, their AI predicts Sam Allardyce’s side to pick up just eight more points, and drop below Sheffield United on goal difference – some 13 points off 17th place.
Do not trust the computers
It looks likely that West Brom will be relegated but we are certainly not going down without a fight.
We have been much improved since our new signings came into the side and could be on a four-match unbeaten run if Mbaye Diagne had stayed onside against Everton.
The idea that we will only get eight more points is laughable.
For starters, we should beat Newcastle given their problems both on and off the field, and we play Crystal Palace after that.
To give us a 0.7% chance of catching the Magpies is a slap in the face of Big Sam, even if we are currently nine points behind.
AI neglects our recent improvement and the settled team we now have.
It cannot see the improvement in organisation and fails to consider the intricacies of football.
For example, we easily could have won against both Manchester United and Burnley if we had taken our chances.
As a result, we are confident of putting up more of a challenge in our survival bid and certainly expect to win more than just eight points in the remaining 11 games.
