West Brom ace Pereira likely to have suitors in UK and abroad
Matheus Pereira is likely to attract international attention if West Brom are relegated from the Premier League, according to the Birmingham Mail.
Pereira, 24, has been more miss than hit in the Premier League for Albion this season, scoring five goals and supplying three assists in 24 top-flight appearances.
However, it is understood that his performances in the Championship last term are likely to pique interest this summer should Sam Allardyce’s men be relegated.
The Birmingham Mail worryingly claims that Pereira “would likely have suitors here and abroad”.
Pereira must stay
There are no ifs and buts about it – Pereira must stay at West Brom this summer.
While he’s had plenty of games where he’s fallen short of expectations in the Premier League, he remains Albion’s best and most technically gifted player.
Pereira scored eight goals and supplied a staggering 20 assists in 42 Championship appearances last season to help the Baggies win promotion to the Premier League.
While he’s underperformed for large spells in the top-flight, he’s still the Black Country club’s top goalscorer and stats by transfermarkt show he’s been involved in 40 per cent of Albion’s top-flight goals this season.
Pereira was rather tentatively linked with Manchester United last season when The Mirror claimed the Premier League club was keeping tabs on the Brazilian.
Nothing came of that but it just shows how top teams rate West Brom’s tricky playmaker.
Pereira disappointed a lot of us fans on Sunday in the 0-0 draw with Newcastle. There have been times where he’s tried too hard, tried to do everything himself and cut a frustrated figure on the pitch.
But we know his class and we know that we stand a much better chance of getting back up next season with him in the side.
