BBC: Kieran Gibbs doubtful for West Brom clash v Crystal Palace
West Brom defender Kieran Gibbs remains doubtful for the Premier League clash against Crystal Palace, according to the BBC.
The Baggies travel to Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoon with little problems facing their squad in terms of injuries and suspensions.
Gibbs missed the draw with Newcastle due to his neck problem and could be absent yet again with the same injury in London.
Conor Townsend covers this problem perfectly.
The left-back has jumped into the side in the Premier League and hasn’t looked back since replacing his more-experienced counter-part.
Gibbs has suffered from injuries consistently this season, with his career slowly coming to an end at The Hawthorns once the campaign ends.
With a move to the MLS in the pipeline and three clubs interested, it appears highly likely that the defender will be making that switch once his contract expires.
Sam Allardyce hasn’t brought him back into the fold after taking over from Slaven Bilic, and that tells us everything we need to know.
Townsend has been superb.
The defender is consistently producing chances going forward and is equally as solid at the back with no one making as many interceptions in the entire squad according to WhoScored.
With Gibbs injured long-term once again, it feels as though we are slowly waving goodbye to one of our least-consistent performers in the past couple of seasons.
This is definitely an area that needs strengthening in the summer, with more consistent competition required needed to push Townsend even further.
