Leon Osman slams Darnell Furlong in West Brom clash v Crystal Palace
West Brom crashed to a 1-0 defeat in their Premier League clash against Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.
Sam Allardyce will have been left disappointed at Selhurst Park, with the Baggies on top for the majority of the clash as it went on.
The only moment splitting the sides was Luka Milivojevic’s penalty after Darnell Furlong was adjudged to have handballed a Wilfried Zaha cross.
Leon Osman couldn’t believe his eyes when covering the game, claiming that Furlong takes far too long too organise himself and was punished.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ live coverage of the clash, the pundit admitted that the Baggies defender handed a gift to the home side, quite literally.
“They hadn’t quite got themselves into position,” he said.
“Furlong is trying to organise, he’s in a bad position and plays Zaha onside initally, and then this, I have no idea what he’s thinking.
“His team were probably the ones showing more desire, and he just gifts a penalty kick to the opposition.”
There can’t be many complaints about this one.
Despite there being numerous questionable decisions from VAR against the Baggies, Furlong left them with no choice but to give the penalty.
The ball into the box from Zaha was going nowhere and would have been cleared, but the defender decided to lean into the box and place his arm in the way and has cost his side.
When fighting relegation, these are the decisions that have to better and maybe part of the reason why we are down in the dumps in the Premier League.
Big Sam keeps stating how important it is to pick up three points in games, but after yet another chance missed, the writing is sadly on the wall.
