Adrian Goldberg blasts Matheus Pereira for another inispid display vs Crystal palace
West Brom failed to score yet again in the 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace and BBC broadcaster Adrian Goldberg focused his criticism on Matheus Pereira.
The host of The Liquidator podcast gave a one minute review of the match at Selhurst Park and did not just blast the Brazilian’s display.
He blamed Sam Allardyce for a lack of attacking ambition and suggested Mbaye Diagne did not lead the line effectively.
Speaking on his Youtube channel, Goldberg said, “This was one for the Big Sam haters – a flat sterile performance by the Baggies who faded after a bright start and ended up with hoofball.
“Matheus the magician turned in another lifeless, listless performance, likewise Diagne who looked utterly demotivated up-front.”
Lack of quality
Goldberg is right to criticise the players but this result, like many other defeats this season, is really the result of the club’s leadership.
Guochuan Lai and Luke Dowling failed in player recruitment last summer and appear to have done so in January too.
Okay Yokuslu is the only addition this season that has really improved the side – Conor Gallagher and Ainsley Maitland-Niles have been solid if unspectacular.
That simply is not good enough and meant we were always likely to get relegated.
Sam Allardyce’s appointment was a good one but he is only just starting to make us competitive.
He needed more time and better signings – those added in January mainly came towards the end of the window.
It is little surprise we lack quality up-front as Matt Phillips is the only attacker with Premier League experience.
We do expect better of Pereira but he is clearly low on confidence and not playing in his favoured position at present.
It seems Mbaye may have lost a bit of enthusiasm also, but who could blame him considering we have won just once since he arrived.
The lack of quality in the squad must be addressed in the summer, but with Lai and Dowling in charge we are doubtful of improvements being made.
