Gary Lineker blown away by Sam Johnstone in West Brom defeat v Crystal Palace
West Brom had few positives to take from their Premier League clash against Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.
The Baggies crashed to another defeat at Selhurst Park, with Luka Milivojevic firing home the only goal from the penalty spot.
Sam Johnstone once again made a number of vital stops in the capital, but there was nothing he could do about the winner.
Gary Lineker was left awestruck by the performance of Johnstone on his personal Twitter account, labelling his efforts as “outstanding” as his side fell to defeat.
“Outstanding save from Sam Johnstone,” he wrote.
“One of many this season. Must be close to an England call-up.”
Sam Johnstone fan club.
This is just the latest member to join, even though we have been singing the praises of our main man since promotion to the Premier League.
After coming in for serious criticism in the Championship, the keeper has become a different animal when playing against the best in the world.
Why shouldn’t he dream of an England call-up?
Nick Pope is clearly the number one candidate, but with Jordan Pickford injured and Dean Henderson hardly featuring ahead of David De Gea, Johnstone has to be ahead.
Gareth Southgate wasn’t at Selhurst Park to take in the action, but he would be foolish not to catch up on the highlights of our number one.
Should the great escape actually be pulled off, the only way that could get any better would be Johnstone potentially representing the Three Lions at the EUROs.
