View: Big Sam could be distracted from West Brom task after mounting Morrison legal defence
The last thing West Brom require at this troubled juncture is more distractions in the battle to stay up but Sam Allardyce could have his eyes away from the prize.
In a since-deleted clip posted on the Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE Youtube account [15/02/21] Ravel Morrison accused Big Sam of coercing him to sign a deal with Mark Curtis, the manager’s agent, when the pair were together at West Ham nearly a decade ago.
As reported on The Athletic website Allardyce has strongly denied these claims and has instructed his lawyers to deal with the matter.
According to The Athletic the Football Association (FA) has neglected to comment further than that they were ‘aware’ of the claims with the war of words set to rage on and end up in the courtroom.
The last thing we need now is distractions.
While Saturday’s 1-0 loss at Crystal Palace has almost certainly consigned us to instant relegation back to the Championship, it is not over until it is mathematically impossible and even when it is we still need to maintain a level of performance and pride that we can take into next season.
What we don’t need is constant whispers surrounding our manager and his ethics.
We’re not in a position to pass judgement on what actually happened between Big Sam and Morrison – that is for the courts to decide.
But now thing we can comment on is how unhelpful this is to our club in the current predicament we find ourselves in.
Full focus needs to be attributed to our survival cause and it is hard to imagine Big Sam can have full tunnel vision when defamatory remarks are hovering over his head.
Just when you thought our season couldn’t get worse this comes along.
We can’t wait until the campaign’s conclusion when we can take stock, sort the manager situation out and reshape the squad.
Perhaps then we can start afresh and some positivity will be injected into the club rather than the constant drip of negativity that is being fed.
