Kevin Phillips wants West Brom to sign Conor Gallagher permanently

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

Kevin Phillips wants West Brom to sign Conor Gallagher permanently after it was reported the Chelsea loan star could be valued at £9million.

Last week, The Express reported that Crystal Palace are interested in signing 21-year-old Gallagher, who is currently on loan at the Baggies.

Gallagher signed a five-year deal with Chelsea last summer before joining the Albion but it is understood that the London club could be willing to sell the midfielder for £9million.

New Blues manager Thomas Tuchel may want a closer look at Gallager first but it does seem as though the England Under-21s ace could be made available due to him being so far down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

If Gallagher is up for grabs in the summer, ex-West Brom striker Phillips would love to see his former club try to sign the midfielder up permanently due to his known ability to perform well in the Premier League and Championship.

Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, Phillips said: “£9million is nothing nowadays. If West Brom were to go down and it was going to cost £9million to keep Gallagher at the club, I would say it’s almost a no-brainer.

“He’s only going to get better and better as he gets older. £9million is nothing.

“You know he can play at that level in the Championship and you know he can play in the Premier League because we’ve seen him play some decent games.

“If you want to bounce straight back up, you need to keep those sorts of players on board and for £9million, it can turn out to be well worth it.”

Gallagher has made 25 appearances in all competitions for West Brom this season, scoring two goals and supplying two assists in the process.

Only Matheus Pereira [9] has been directly involved in more goals than the Chelsea loanee [4] in all competitions.

In other West Brom news, this is when Big Sam is expected to exit the Albion.
