Allardyce demands West Brom forwards develop clinical edge

Sam Allardyce has demanded that his West Brom forwards develop a clinical edge going into the final few months of the season.

Winless in three Premier League games, the Baggies are currently 19th in the table, ten points from safety with just nine games remaining.

Despite this though, Allardyce has urged his players to give their all until the final game has been played, and has demanded that his players find their nerve and develop a killer instinct.

Allardyce is quoted by the Express & Star as saying: “You can talk about practice, and we all have that opportunity where we can section off areas of defending, midfield and attacking.

“But what it’s really about is having the nerve to produce the hardest thing in the Premier League and finding that clinical finish. The ability to put the ball in the back of the net when that chance pops up.

“It’s a bit like what happened to us against Everton. We saw a wonderful goal scored by Mbaye Diagne. Chest and volley all in one movement.

“But unfortunately, for us, he’s a toenail offside. We need to see more of that, not just from Mbaye, we need to share it around.

“We need all our front players to get in dangerous positions and be more clinical.”

Too little too late

At this point in the season, we’d much rather Allardyce just embrace Albion’s inevitable drop.

We’ve lost too many must-win games to really hand us a lifeline to cling to, so survival at this point just seems like a fantasy that does us no good to dwell on.

It remains to be seen whether Allardyce will still be at the Hawthorns next season, but it’s almost a certainty that the Hawthorns will host Championship football next season, so Big Sam should prepare for it.

Both in terms of how his team operates on the pitch and in the way he speaks about the club in press conferences, Allardyce should treat Albion like the Championship club that they will soon be.

Next season is going to be an entirely different beast than this campaign, and coming into it with a plan in mind serves us the best opportunity to bounce back immediately.

We’re tired of hearing about Big Sam’s hopes for the remaining games of the season. Let’s be real and actually look ahead to the future, not into this make-believe fantasy.

In other West Brom news, Karlan Grant and Grady Diangana give Allardyce food for thought.
