Callum Robinson thrilled by West Brom progression of Dara O’Shea
Callum Robinson has been thrilled by the progression of West Brom and Republic of Ireland teammate Dara O’Shea in the past couple of years.
The young defender made the jump into the first-team under Slaven Bilic, and has continued that in the Premier League with Sam Allardyce.
Robinson believes it is “crazy” how quick O’Shea has made the jump into the first-team, but admits it is fully justified.
Speaking via the Irish Post, Robinson has been in awe of the quick development of the young defender since moving to The Hawthorns.
“It’s crazy actually because when I joined West Brom on loan last January, Dara literally just got in properly into the first-team,” he said.
“Dara’s the sort of player that I knew he’d be able to adapt. You could see even internationally, he played in the last few trips and just fitted in.
“It’s just the way he plays. He’s a calm player, confident in himself as well which is good and I can only see him getting better.”
O’Shea has been one of the very few positives to take since promotion to the Premier League.
After the arrival of Branislav Ivanovic and the favouritism towards the likes of Semi Ajayi, he may not have expected much game time, but he has forced his way in.
The 22-year-old has started 20 games in the Premier League this season already, and his next goal will be to nail down his spot in the senior Irish side over the next fortnight.
It is brilliant that the Baggies youngster is proving himself with ease to the rest of the senior squad, and he certainly deserves this spot; he’s earned it.
