Chris Brunt: Conversation with Myhill and Morrison persuaded me to re-join West Brom
Chris Brunt is delighted to be back at West Brom and revealed his former teammates James Morrison and Boaz Myhill were key to his return.
Brunt is enjoying life as a coach and is eager to learn from the pair mentioned above as well as Deon Burton, another ex-teammate.
He stressed that the opportunity to help young players was a significant factor behind his decision to join, but Morrison and Myhill provided some extra persuasion.
In an interview with the official West Brom site, Brunt said, “I’m close with Mozza and Boaz, I speak to them all the time. That was one of the things that sort of persuaded me to have a bit more of a go at it.
“When you’ve got good friends on the staff and see what they’re doing day to day, they can pass their experiences on to you as well.
“It’s something that I always wanted to try and do so I’ll give it my all until the end of the season and see how it goes.
“If it’s for three months, if it’s for three years or whatever it is, hopefully I can pass on a little bit of what I learned over at my time at the club on to the younger lads that are coming through.”
Reuniting the old boys
Getting the old band back together is great to see and it should pay dividends for both the senior and youth squads.
They each have a tonne of experience playing in the Premier League so should be able to pass on their wisdom.
Also, they have played under top-quality managers during the career – Roy Hodgson and John Toshack for example – so should have learnt a thing or two about training methods and tactics.
Brunt signed a deal until the end of the season but if he displays the same attitude as Morrison and Myhill we are sure he will stay.
There was an outpour of joy at the news of his return and with not much to brag about this season the board may offer him a new deal.
If he helps our youngsters we could even see him earn a promotion to the first-team at some point in the future.
The prospect of him managing the club is a distant but pleasant thought, so we are excited to see what the next few months holds.
In other West Brom news, according to one report Albion have lined up a potential replacement for Sam Allardyce.
