QPR boss voices desire to sign West Brom loanee Sam Field on a permanent deal

QPR manager Mark Warburton is desperate to tie down West Brom loanee Sam Field on a permanent deal after an impressive start to life in West London.

Field joined the Championship side in February on a temporary deal until the end of the season but there is a clause in the contract that allows QPR to purchase him outright [QPR club website].

As reported on West London Sport Warburton is hopeful this clause can be activated.

“I would be very keen and I know he is really enjoying his football here,” he said.

“He’s settled very well into the squad. He can play at centre-half in a two or a three and, as he has shown, in midfield.

“He’s six foot two, has that physicality you need, so he ticks a lot of boxes for us.

“I have been delighted with his contribution. I know he is enjoying his football and being around the squad. They have embraced him as a personality, so so far so good.”

Time’s up

Field had a disappointing season before he linked up with QPR after struggling with injury for much of the campaign.

Even when the 22-year-old returned from his lay-off he seemed out-of-favour under new boss Sam Allardyce and thus a loan move out of the club was the sensible option to give him some game time to continue his development.

He made a sensational start to his Rs career as he scored against Brentford on his debut and since that game he has imposed himself as a crucial part of their team, making 10 appearances.

The West Brom youth product admitted early on into his loan that he was keen to secure a permanent exit from the West Midlands [QPR official Twitter] and after Warburton’s comments this seems like the natural conclusion now.

With our impending relegation back to the second-tier it might’ve been wise to keep Field around the squad as our trio of midfield loanees [Conor Gallagher, Okay Yokuslu and Ainsley Maitland-Niles] will all leave the club at the end of the season.

But the decision might be out of our hands now and Field is set to call time on his Albion career.
