Joseph Masi suggests West Brom have big hopes for Josh Griffiths

West Brom have big expectations for youngster Josh Griffiths, according to Express & Star journalist Joseph Masi.

The goalkeeper is on loan at Cheltenham this season and his impressive performances have helped them to the top of League Two.

He has also played his way into the England U21 squad, so the future is bright for him and another Albion loanee, Alex Palmer.

The latter has enjoyed a successful campaign at Lincoln, and with Sam Johnstone’s future uncertain due to interest from Tottenham [The Sun], Masi has been discussing the two young keepers.

He said on the Baggies Broadcast, “Everyone’s talking about Alex Palmer [but] Josh Griffiths is in the England U21s squad now which is remarkable.

“I was told a long time ago by someone at Albion … they were like, ‘Alex Palmer is good but Josh Griffiths is the one they’ve got real hopes for’.

“Palmer has since gone on and done exceptionally well out on loan, but I think Josh Griffiths is very exciting.”

Exciting future

West Brom have two exciting young shot-stoppers coming through so we should be in safe hands in the future, quite literally.

Losing Johnstone would be a blow but we could get a good fee if it is Spurs who come knocking.

Also, his departure would open the door for Griffiths or Palmer.

The pair lack experience but playing behind Kyle Bartley and Semi Ajayi would help massively with that.

A manager like Sam Allardyce or Chris Widler, who has been linked by the Daily Star, could also get the best out of them as their man-management has worked a treat in the past.

Wilder had success with a young Dean Henderson at Sheffield Untied and Griffiths is already emulating the Manchester United man.

Like Henderson previously, Griffiths has been recognised by England U21s despite playing in League Two – that shows how highly he is rated.

As a result, we are keen to see him in action at The Hawthorns as he could have a very promising future ahead of him.

In other West Brom news, Callum Robinson is delighted with the progression of one of his Albion teammates.
