West Brom ace Johnstone could be easy for Tottenham to sign

West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is on Tottenham’s shortlist to replace Hugo Lloris in the summer, according to The Sun.

Johnstone, 27, reported for duty with the England senior side for the first time on Monday alongside fellow shot-stoppers Nick Pope of Burnley and Manchester United’s Dean Henderson.

It is understood that as Lloris, 34, eyes a possible return to France in the summer, sixth-placed Spurs have turned their attention to all three of England’s current goalkeepers.

The Sun claims that out of the three, Johnstone would be the easiest and cheapest to sign if the Baggies suffer relegation to the Championship.

All the best, SJ

Johnstone has been West Brom’s player of the season this term.

Although he’s conceded more goals than anyone else in the Premier League, the Albion would be in an even more perilous position without him due to the number of top saves he’s made in the top-flight.

Johnstone has made more saves than any other goalkeeper in Europe’s top-five leagues this season with 123. He’s also faced the most shots [178] thanks to Albion’s leaky defence [Wyscout].

The former Manchester United man has proven he’s Premier League quality at The Hawthorns and if Tottenham want to sign him and make him their number one, we cannot blame him if he wants to move on.

In an exclusive interview with West Brom News, Kevin Phillips has claimed Johnstone’s latest call-up to the England squad will only heighten his profile and make a summer exit more likely.

That seems very plausible so if Johnstone does move on, let’s hope he does for a decent fee so Luke Dowling can improve other areas of the squad like the centre of the midfield and the striker position.

In other West Brom news, Phillips claims the time is right for this outfield player to exit The Hawthorns.
