West Brom left-back Gibbs signs pre-contract deal with Inter Miami
Kieran Gibbs has signed a pre-contract agreement with Inter Miami with the left-back’s spell at West Brom set to end in the summer, according to John Percy.
Writing via his personal Twitter account on Tuesday morning, the Telegraph journalist reported that Gibbs, 31, will join David Beckham’s MLS club in July as his contract at The Hawthorns expires at the end of this season.
Gibbs was linked with a move away from West Brom in each of the last two transfer windows but it seems that the club’s highest-earning player [ESPN] will finally bid farewell to the Black Country club this summer.
Money freed up
Gibbs has been a huge waste of money over the last couple of seasons.
It’s hardly been his fault with the ex-Arsenal left-back suffering from a multitude of injuries but he’s reportedly earning £70,000-a-week on his contract at The Hawthorns this season, making him the club’s biggest expense on the wage bill.
Gibbs has played just 10 times in the Premier League this term and it’s hard to remember him playing a single good game for the Baggies.
He’s been suspended for a stupid red card at Everton, had a positive COVID test, been dropped in favour of Conor Townsend and is now currently sidelined yet again through injury.
Gibbs has been an okay left-back for West Brom, when you look at his entire spell at the club.
The former England left-back has made 100 appearances in all competitions for the Albion and not all of them have been terrible.
He was at his best in the 2018/19 Championship season but injuries really have taken their toll on a player who once looked a superb signing for the club.
We’ll wish Gibbs all the best at Inter Miami and we think he should do quite well in the States as long as he can stay fit.
