Emile Heskey: Chris Wilder would be ‘phenomenal’ choice for West Brom
Emile Heskey has backed West Brom to target “phenomenal” Chris Wilder to replace Sam Allardyce at the end of the Premier League season.
The Baggies are dragging themselves slowly towards relegation to the Championship, something which activates a clause to break ties with Big Sam.
Wilder recently left Sheffield United, and Sky Sports pundit, Heskey believes that West Brom could be an ideal next destination.
Speaking to HITC, Heskey insisted that it may be tough for Wilder to gain full control from members of the board at The Hawthorns.
“What Wilder does do well is prepare players, create players and create systems that work. Last year, everyone was looking at Sheffield United in awe,” he said.
“Today’s football would be difficult for people like Chris, who probably want full-on control, whereas you have technical directors, sporting directors all these different people who have major says.
“I think if Chris is able to get on board with that, you’ve got a phenomenal manager. West Brom are a very, very good club.”
Big Sam has tried his best, but the harsh truth is that no one could have saved West Brom from their inevitable relegation this season.
Wilder will be the first name to arise given his initial success in the Premier League and also the Championship, but his work in the transfer market has been scrutinised during this campaign.
The Baggies need a manager who knows what it will take to get back into the Premier League from the second-tier, and there aren’t many better than Wilder.
Allardyce is surely set to exit should our relegation be confirmed, and the Baggies will need to act quick to rebuild over the summer.
