West Brom Super Fans bouyed by Gibbs exit as some target Brenford’s Rico Henry

This is part of a regular series from our panel of West Brom Super Fans. Each week, our Super Fans will deliver their verdicts on the biggest talking points and news stories around The Hawthorns.

West Brom have confirmed Kieran Gibbs will join Inter Miami at the end of the season and our group of Super Fans are relieved with the news.

The 31-year-old has been injured often this season and Conor Townsend has overtaken him as the first-choice left-back

Gibbs has spent almost four years at The Hawthorns but the club never seemed fussed about keeping him beyond the summer.

The chance to get his £70,000 a week salary [ESPN] off the wage bill was likely too good to turn down and it seems everyone is satisfied with his departure.

Our Super Fans commented on Gibbs’ impending exit and looked to what the summer may hold in terms of replacements.

Brentford’s Rico Henry was mentioned most but others have taken a liken to Manchester United’s Brandon Williams and Fulham’s Joe Bryan.

Henry is a very exciting option and we are not surprised there has been frequent mention of him above.

He is only 23-years-old but a key member of Brentford’s promotion-chasing season, with 1.3 tackles and one dribble per game, per WhoScored.

However, he could be an expensive option and therefore a possible loanee like Williams would suit us more.

Brentford

That is mainly because Townsend will be first-choice.

He has looked impressive at the back and has been crucial to our recent defensive improvement – Albion have conceded seven goals in eight games since Townsend returned from injury.

If there is to be a limited transfer budget yet again we must concentrate on strengthening clear areas of weakness, like our striking options.

Midfield could also need a total revamp as three loanees make up the current first-choice options.

As a result, we expect Gibbs to be replaced but it may be done on the cheap.

In other West Brom news, Joseph Masi has dropped a hint that another experienced player could leave.
