Semi Ajayi responds to claims West Brom already relegated from Premier League

Semi Ajayi has responded to claims that West Brom are already relegated to the Championship from the Premier League this season.

The defender is currently away on international duty with Nigeria, despite losing his spot to Dara O’Shea after his red card against Burnley.

Sam Allardyce has not delivered the results that were hoped after his appointment, with the final third becoming a real problem at The Hawthorns.

Speaking to the BBC during his break away from The Albion, Ajayi insisted that the squad are desperate to turn around their fortunes this season.

“It’s not easy. We are desperate right now and we need points as soon as possible,” he said.

“I’d say everyone’s written us off but we definitely haven’t really written ourselves off. We still have belief, we still have hope and it’s just about taking one game at a time.”

Not enough.

It has come to the stage where one game simply isn’t enough for West Brom, and they have to go on an incredible run to escape this season.

The gap is currently sitting at 10 points, and Fulham will have the first shot at taking Newcastle’s spot, which is clearly up for grabs.

West Brom will need to win at least four of their remaining eight games this season, and that is if the clubs above them fail to win once in the next two months.

Ajayi and the squad may be desperate to escape relegation, but this is the attitude we needed from the start of this shocking season.

It is too little too late, and we are already preparing for life in the Championship once again.
