West Brom to scout Turkey goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir
West Brom are one of a number of club who will scout Trabzsonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir as he plays for Turkey this week, according to Asist Analiz.
The Turkish news outlet claims Chelsea, Liverpool, RB Leipzig, Sevilla and Brighton will also have someone watch over Cakir, 24, as he plays for Turkey in their World Cup qualifier showdown with Norway on Saturday.
Cakir produced two stunning saves in stoppage time to help Turkey win 4-2 against the Netherlands earlier this week. Both denied Memphis Depay from scoring late goals and one of them was from a penalty kick.
Johnstone replacement?
Cakir was in superb form on Wednesday as Turkey grabbed a phenomenal win against the Netherlands in World Cup qualifiers.
Okay Yokuslu also starred for the Turkish side, who’ve taken a giant leap towards a possible spot at the 2022 World Cup by beating the group favourites.
They have another tough match on the horizon though with Norway to play next.
Erling Haaland is one of the best strikers in the world at the moment so it will be very interesting to see how Cakir shapes up against him after his wonderful display to stop Depay scoring on Wednesday.
West Brom could be in the market for a new goalkeeper in the summer transfer window as Sam Johnstone has impressed in the Premier League this season and has been linked with a move away from The Hawthorns [The Sun].
David Button and Alex Palmer could represent good options for a potential vacancy as Albion’s number one but if money will allow it, Trabzonspor’s Cakir would clearly be an upgrade.
Unfortunately, a move seems unlikely due to the quality of clubs who are also tracking him and if West Brom come calling as a Championship club in the summer, we’d expect Cakir would rather want to stay in Turkey with Trabzonspor.
In other West Brom news, Filip Krovinovic and Matheus Pereira have reacted to Kieran Gibbs’ agreement to join Inter Miami.
