West Brom-linked Cakir sends message to Okay Yokuslu after midfield masterclass

Okay Yokuslu has won the hearts of Albion fans with some sensational displays for West Brom and he has taken that form onto the international stage.

Fresh from dispatching a star-studded Netherlands side 4-2 on Wednesday Turkey took on the might of Erling Haaland and his Norway outfit on Saturday hoping for similar success.

They managed an even more convincing 3-0 win and Yokuslu was instrumental to ensuring Haaland and co were kept quiet with a midfield masterclass, putting fires out and orchestrating Turkey’s forays forwards.

Yokuslu posted this message on his personal Instagram account after the game: “Now that’s the sound of [the] Turkey! With great faith, keep winning.”

International teammate Ugurcan Cakir was among those to shower him in praise and he replied with hands raised emoticons and a couple of love hearts.

This is even more notable to Albion supporters after Turkish news outlet Asist Analiz reported on Friday that West Brom had sent scouts to watch Cakir in action for Turkey this week.

Whispers in the ear

A move for Cakir would appear difficult to reach given the size of the clubs also linked with his signature, including the likes of Liverpool and Chelsa.

With the relegation back to the Championship looming it would be an ambitious move by the club to bring in an international goalkeeper who is starring for one of Turkey’s top clubs in Trabzonspor, who could also offer European football next season after the conclusion of their UEFA-enforced ban.

But we can dare to dream that Yokuslu will be having close contact with Cakir and can convince him to come to The Hawthorns. Their Instagram exchange certainly shows there is an affinity between them.

Signing Yokuslu on a permanent deal will be difficult enough and if we do not survive in the Premier League it seems an almost certainty that he will depart for good.

However we live in hope and long for an Albion line-up containing the Turkish duo next season, in the expected event that Sam Johnstone departs The Hawthorns and the No.1 jersey is vacated.

In other West Brom news, Yokuslu could thrive in new-look role in Conor Gallagher absence v Chelsea.
