Danny Wright Fan Mailbag: Will Halfords Lane stand by revamped?
Every week we’ll be asking West Brom fans on our Facebook account for questions that will be answered by editor Danny Wright. You can join in by following the West Brom News Facebook account and watching out for weekly mailbag posts.
In 2017, FourFourTwo named The Hawthorns as the best stadium in English football – but that doesn’t mean West Brom’s home is perfect.
Increasing the capacity of the highest stadium in the EFL has been a topic that’s cropped up every other year with it previously being mooted while previous owner Jeremy Peace was at the club.
In our latest mailbag, West Brom News editor Danny Wright was asked whether the West Stand on Halfords Lane should be improved.

Ex-chief executive Mark Jenkins gave an update on where West Brom stand on increasing the capacity last year but, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail, he said that more seats would be added if there was a demand for it. And let’s face it, when was the last time we saw The Hawthorns sell out on a consistent basis?
The West Stand is definitely the place to look at improving if they do go ahead with a refurb or an expansion in the near future.
In comparison to the East Stand, it’s tiny but it is impeded due to the fact the Halfords Lane road runs right behind it. In order to expand it, it’s likely that a construction over the road would need to be made, like Villa Park’s Trinity Road Stand, but that is surely going to be a mammoth undertaking for the club.
Right now, I don’t think it’s the time to be considering a stadium refurb or expansion. While we’d all like to see The Hawthorns get bigger and the Halfords Lane stand to become more like the other three stands, it just isn’t feasible now when we’re floating in between divisions.
