Hollywood actor and West Brom fan Matthew Marsden threatens to call it quits if Pereira exits

Hollywood actor and West Brom fan Matthew Marsden has issued a public outcry over reports that Matheus Pereira could leave The Hawthorns this summer.

UOL Esporte carried a report on April 1 that claimed Albion were prepared to sell the Brazilian at the end of the season for a figure in the region of £17million.

West Brom

While that would represent profit on the £9million [BBC] they paid Sporting Lisbon for his services last year his goals and creativity would be a big loss to a side struggling for both.

Indeed he has scored (six) and assisted (three) more times than any of his teammates and that would suggest why ‘Rambo’ and ‘Tenet’ actor Marsden is so upset at the prospect of him departing.

He tweeted: “If @WBA sell @MatheusPereira this summer….. I think that will be it for me.”

Onwards and upwards at Albion

While it will be a sad event should Pereira exit the club this summer we’re not sure if we’d be quite as dramatic as Marsden.

We hope it’s a wry bit of humour and just another jibe at the hapless hierarchy at West Brom.

No player is bigger than the club and we have moved on from bigger and better players than Pereira.

Of course that’s not to downplay his excellence and his role in our successful promotion push last season, nor his attempts to keep us in the Premier League, but his departure would not spell the end of times.

He has looked disinterested at times this season and if he fetched circa £17million this summer that would be a decent bit of business if reinvested.

If, however, is the pertinent two-letter word that is so important in this.

Should we sanction the sale of Pereira and not use the money to galvanise the squad ahead of a march on the Championship title next year then the deal looks significantly worse.

We might have a bit more sympathy for Marsden’s plight, then.
