Sam Allardyce says his West Brom future relies on budget available
Sam Allardyce says his West Brom future will depend on what assurances he can get from the board ahead of next season.
Big Sam revealed there is a clause in his contract which means he will definitely stay at The Hawthorns if Albion stay up.
That looks unlikely currently, and Allardyce said he would need to get an insight into the kind of budget he would be working with in the Championship as he is keen to bounce back at the first time of asking.
As quoted by Sky Sports, he said, “If we both agree to go forward, then that’s great, we get on with it.
“That’s a long discussion with (sporting and technical director) Luke (Dowling) and Ken (chief executive Xu Ke) about what changes do they think they have to make financially, how much money do they have to save, how many players and staff do they have to let go, what budgets would then be available.
“That’s a very complex situation to sit down and look at because, if I want to stay at West Brom, I’d want to be getting them back in the Premier League the first time of asking like I did when I joined West Ham.
“I wouldn’t want to mess about.”
Cards on the table
Allardyce has been open about what he wants if he is to stay and it is clear he has ambitious plans for the club.
It will be interesting to see if the board match his vision and if Big Sam was to leave it would indicate that the board is unwilling to spend what is necessary for promotion.
In Allardyce we have an experienced manager capable of both promotion and survival if given the right resources.
We have one piece of the puzzle in place and in Matheus Pereira, Grady Diangana and Karlan Grant we have a proven Championship trio.
It may not take too much to build a promotion-winning squad, with the defence also proving its quality in recent weeks.
Allardyce has already improved the team with limited spending too and in our eyes has proven himself since his arrival.
It would be a real disappointment if the board could not convince him to stay as it is unlikely we could attract a more proven manager.
