Laura Woods was full of awe for Matheus Pereira after he stunned Chelsea but Jamie O’Hara thinks the midfielder will leave West Brom in the summer.
Pereira was on top form with two goals and two assists as he ran riot at Stamford Bridge.
Woods picked him out as a key creative threat and suggested Pereira is a player Albion will be desperate to keep if they get relegated.
O’Hara thinks there is no hope of the Brazilian staying if that happens, however.
On talkSPORT’s Breakfast with Laura Woods, Woods said of Pereira, “One of the most creative, one of those players as well that really if they are going to go down you’d want to really try and keep hold of to bring you back up.”
O’Hara replied simply, “Pfft no chance.”
Pereira proved on Saturday that he is clearly a Premier League quality player.
His finishes were top class and he also showed brilliant vision and awareness to find Mbaye Diagne and Callum Robinson for the fourth and fifth goals.
Unfortunately, we have not seen this kind of form from Pereira often enough this season.
That is one of the reasons why we have struggled to score in recent games – prior to Saturday we had only scored two goals in five games.
In defence of Pereira he was playing in his more natural no.10 role against Chelsea after the half-hour mark, but it is possible he is now trying to attract a move away through his performances.
After all, a report from UOL Esporte last week stated that West Brom were prepared to sell the 24-year-old for a price of £17million.
He should be keen to continue testing himself at the highest level too, and if he replicates his Chelsea showing there is bound to be interest in the summer.
In other West Brom news, Chris Lepowski has provided a major update on Lai talks to sell club.
