West Brom Super Fans have been discussing the future of Sam Johnstone in response to a report that he will likely be sold this summer.

The Athletic suggest Albion are prepared to sell the goalkeeper for a fee between £7.5million and £10million.

Tottenham have been linked [The Sun] but the 27-year-old could reportedly find his options limited, despite impressing this season.

Losing a key player could be a blow to West Brom but our Super Fans seemed resigned to the idea that he will go – even if it is for a figure below his true value.

That is because the shot-stopper has a year left on his contract, so the summer is our best opportunity to cash in and rebuild the squad.

Here is some of the reaction to The Athletic’s report.

The Super Fans above will accept Johnstone leaving but the lack of suitors means there is still hope of him saying.

West Ham and Leeds have been raised as possible destinations but they have solid first-choice goalkeepers in Lukasz Fabianski and Illan Meslier respectively.

And it is unlikely Johnstone will move to sit on the bench somewhere – he has done that too often in his career.

If he does go we share the concern raised by Dan Nash that we may be in a difficult position where only one club comes in for him.

In that case we may have to settle for a low fee – otherwise we risk losing him for nothing next summer.

If Johnstone was to stay and help get us back up then that may be worth the risk of him seeing his contract out.

After all, promotion would be worth a lot more than £10million and Premier League football could even persuade Johnstone to stay.

That is a very big if, however, as promotion would be very difficult to accomplish if we get relegated.
