Charlie Austin: I would leave West Brom permanently to join QPR in summer
Queens Park Rangers loanee Charlie Austin has admitted he would love to leave West Brom permanently in the summer.
The 31-year-old left The Hawthorns on loan in January and has since made 17 starts in the Championship, scoring six goals for the Hoops.
Austin made it very clear that he would have no issues with leaving the Baggies at the end of this season should the opportunity arise.
Speaking to West London Sport, Austin insisted that he would leave the Baggies but wants to join a club pushing for promotion to the Premier League.
“Would I stay? Of course, but it’s got to be about ambition for the club to push on and have a go next year at getting promoted,” he said.
“Would I like to stay? Of course, if the opportunity is there. But it all comes down to what the club want to do. I want to have a go and be in a team that’s winning games of football – pretty much what we’ve been doing.
“I want to have a go at getting a team back into the Premier League and then who knows what happens after that. I want to be fighting with a team to get promotion.”
Austin v Baggies?
Despite the 5-2 victory against Chelsea last weekend, there is still a massive chance that we will be relegated and playing our football in the Championship next season.
Austin has admitted that he was ostracised at West Brom before his exit, and it was inevitable that his loan exit was coming before Big Sam arrived.
It could come down to the Baggies facing Austin and his club, whether that be QPR next season in the Championship in the race for promotion.
The truth is, Austin doesn’t really stand a chance of starting for the Albion next season, with Callum Robinson and Karlan Grant miles ahead in the pecking order, especially in the Championship.
We wouldn’t usually like a player contracted to the Baggies coming out and being this clear, but this is something that is best for parties.
